Increasing Native Homeownership

The South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition launched our statewide Down Payment Assistance Program to close the homeownership affordability gap for Native American families across South Dakota.

Program Overview

The Down Payment Assistance Program provides up to $10,000 to homebuyers who are clients of Coalition member organizations for down payment, closing costs, and other expenses related to mortgage financing.

  • Member organizations must be current on membership dues and data reporting requirements in order to participate in the program.
  • Funding assistance can be used for purchases of single-family primary residences in South Dakota or the North Dakota portions of the Standing Rock and Lake Traverse Reservations.
  • Down payment assistance is 0% interest with non-amortizing payments and is 100% forgivable if the homebuyer remains in the home for five years.
  • Funds will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis as funds are available.

Please review the program policies document for a complete program description, eligibility requirements, eligible use of funds, request process, and terms of forgiveness.
