Membership Eligibility Guidelines & Policies
> Membership is open to individuals, agencies, institutions, organizations, and other entities that support the South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition’s mission of increasing homeownership opportunities for Native Americans in South Dakota.
> Annual memberships are valid from June 1st to May 31st each year. Membership applications will open on May 1st of each year to ensure ample time in processing applications and payments. Although membership applications can be submitted at any time, we strongly encourage new or renewing members to submit annual dues by June 1st each year to receive maximum membership benefits. The Coalition does not prorate dues.
> Membership applications are subject to a review and approval process by the Coalition’s Membership Committee. If there are any questions or issues with your application, we will contact you within 30 days of your submission.
> Membership dues can be refunded within 30 days of submitting a membership application. A 3% processing fee will be charged on all refunds.
Membership Levels, Annual Dues, & Benefits
The Coalition offers tiered membership levels that provide various opportunities for members to connect with other members, raise awareness of their organization’s work, and support the work in the Native homeownership field at a financial level that matches their organizations’ capacity.
Lodge Pole Membership - $250
The lodge pole is the foundation of the tipi structure and a fundamental element. As the Coalition’s foundational membership level, the Lodge Pole Membership comes with many benefits.
Buffalo Hide Membership - $500
As an essential part of the tipi, the buffalo hide provided essential protection in traditional living. The Buffalo Hide Membership is a great option for entities with a desire to deepen their impact in the Native homeownership field.
Painted Tipi Membership - $1,000
On the prairie, a painted tipi attracts attention and tells the story of the owner. With extra benefits, the Painted Tipi Membership is for entities that desire additional exposure.
Travois Membership - $2,500
The travois did the “heavy lifting” to support the nomadic lifestyle for Lakota groups. For entities that want to provide additional support to the Coalition, the Travois Membership provides opportunities for increased exposure.
Tiospaye Membership - $5,000
The tiospaye (family or extended family) is the center of Lakota culture. For organizations with the ability to contribute more, the Tiospaye Membership provides opportunities for maximum exposure.
Kola Membership - $10,000
Although translated as “friend” in modern times, the traditional concept of “kola” was much more than a friend. For entities that want to extend our network and foster new relationships, the Kola Membership level comes with maximum benefits.
